Triglav is the highest mountain in Slovenia and also the symbol of our nation! They say that a true Slovenian visits Triglav at least once in his/her life. I say that a true extreme skier has to ski down Triglav at least once in life. This year the weather was very generous and even though it was May already - there was more then 4 meters of snow up there. I quickly assembled the team - Dadi, Burek, Kebr, Brin and me. We ascended up the glacier valley of Kot and straight to Kredarica. We arrived at the hut in dense fog and pitch darkness - but that made the sandwiches and beer even sweeter. After watching some hokey we went to sleep.. and even though we were all tired we slept very poorly (reasons? I guess - exhaustion, cold, excitement, altitude, etc). At around 8:00 we started climbing the north-eastern face of Triglav. The snow quality was great - compacted powder and we were quick to advance. Somewhere in the middle Kebr and Brin turned around while Dadi, Burek and I continued to the mountain ridge. We left our equipment there and attacked the summit. We quickly found out that the wind has made some dangerous snow cornices over the ridge and decided to suppress our youth ambition. We descended back to 2760m, put on our skies and Dadi his snowboard and we started the ride! All I can say is that: it doesn't get much better than that! The incline and exposure were both big and even our courageous Burek was a little pale. But there was no room for fear nor mistakes and we were all relieved when we met up with Kebr and Brin down on Kredarica. Then another 1300m of pure descend on wet powder and we were back on 25 degrees Celsius ... about 2 kilometers below our new success - Triglav! (Alpinistic skiing: IV+, S5)
