Bratislava, Vienna and the local goods!

For our second anniversary, we decided to leave our angel in the grandmothers' hands, and make a short excursion to Bratislava and Vienna. Not to forget that historically we were one nation with Slovaks and that Vienna was our capital during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. At first we visited Martin, Lucy and Daniel - our friends from Bratislava and slept in their newly furnished house. Together we spent a lovely evening before we baptized their guest room and sofa. The next morning we climbed the historical Devin castle and later visited the Danube modern gallery. For the next three days we stayed in Vienna. We played typical tourists, as we crisscrossed the main squares, climbed the tower of St. Stefan's church and took the city-tour bus. On the second day we visited Schunnbrunn and the nearby zoo, which is said to be the oldest in the world. However, the  traditional culinary specialties were the highlight of the trip. On the Austrian-Slovakian boarder, we enjoyed goulash and other Hungarian specialities.

Coming to Vienna, we couldn't miss the Original Sachertorte, prepared with the same recipe ever since 1832, making it (probably) the most famous cake in the world. I am not the biggest fan of caffeine; however, I crowned the experience by drinking the original Sacher coffee.

After a sweet appetizer, we decided to go for the heavyweight champion - the original Winner Schnitzel. This was something Ana could not handle, and went for the "lighter" veal liver with boiled potatoes.

On the next day we were still not going gentle, as we tackled the famous Austrian ribs. When they brought the monster, Ana was rather skeptical; however, with the help of the local beer we somehow managed to finish the task. Not to forget, the ribs were delicious!

"Šmoren" was my favourite dish in kindergarden. It took almost quarter of a century for me to realize this simple and yet extraordinary sweet (Kaizerschmarren) is comming from Austria. Not to mention the original "apfelstrudel mit vanillesauce". All in the name of tradition!
