Last Wednesday witnessed an epic soccer duel between Slovenia and Russia - David against Goliath.. and you probably know how the story ends! After a great qualifying round, Slovenia ended second in the group, which meant they had to play an additional match to qualify for the World Cup 2010 (South Africa). Since FIFA simply couldn't imagine this great competition without Christiano Ronaldo (Portugal), France and not to forget Russian millionaires that would spend vigorous amounts of money in South Africa, they staged a "controlled" draw, where the smaller countries were paired with soccer giants. When Russians saw that they were playing against "little" Slovenia, they already started preparing for the World Cup. They even introduced their new team dresses for South Africa. Russian politicians and businessmen, who flew to Slovenia with their privat jets, booked casinos and restaurants for the winning celebration after the game. However, they weren't counting on such resistance from Slovenian soccer heroes (worth 5.5 times less then Russian stars). With the help of 12 thousand faithful supporters (not to forget my father, Ana and me) the boys left their heart on the field and beat Russia 1-0. SOUTH AFRICA.. here we come baby!
