Ice-climbing

Last Sunday, just before temperatures sky-rocketed, we climbed a few frozen waterfalls in the shady valleys of Prisojnik. This was a completely new chapter of alpinism for me, and I have a hard time finding the right words for the sport. It's easy and fun, but quite intensive and scary at the same time. The only negative side is that you spend the whole day in narrow valleys, where the sun "don't shine!" I came home a little wet, with signs of frostbite on my toes - but overall, it was a good experience and a great time spent with my alpinistic school colleagues.

Climbing in Osp!

The weathermen were forecasting a perfect sunny day and I had big plans to capitalize. However, it turned out that all of my friends had something else to do and I faced a great dilemma of staying at home or going to the mountains alone. Over the last few years, I got used to always having good company and I have become very reluctant to mountaineering alone. Finally Marko called me and invited me for a climbing afternoon near the seaside and let's say that Sunday was "saved"! This time we decided to climb a longer route (5c, 110m) in Osp, where Marko showed me all the maneuvers of longer routs and we climbed for almost two hours. Hanging 100 meters above the ground brings you to a completely new level and the heart rate is constantly a little higher than usual. We faced a couple of smaller difficulties during the climb but generally it was almost perfect. On the top we absorbed the setting sun and glorious views. However, when descending back down, I somehow lost my camera in the bushes. I was furious, especially because I took extreme care of the camera on the climb up and then lost it when I least expected - on the easy walk back to the car. Forgetting the camera, we had the best time - and I'm sure Marko would agree!

Trenta - Heaven on Earth!

So comes summer, and with it - a deadly dose of rock climbing. This time we made a trip to the valley of Trenta with its crystal clear Soča, mystical mountains, fairy-tale meadows, sexy girls bathing in the sun.. ok I got carried away a little. Anyhow, we did bouldering, which is a discipline of rock climbing. You basically climb on boulders (big rocks scattered around, usually not higher than 5 meters) with a crash pad and your friend protecting you on the bottom in case you fall. In some cases you spend hours studying one bolder, sweating like a pig and failing to climb it for more than hundred times. And when you finally climb it you feel invincible.. hehe, but just for a few minutes until you find a new "problem" to climb. After the climbing there was a big picnic and party in the mountains. And believe me, climbers and alpinists do know how to have fun!

Climbing - Črni Kal

In the middle of March, the coast began to seduce us with good weather and dry rock. One Saturday was perfect for some rock climbing - with our alpinistic division group. It was my first time in Črni Kal and I quickly found out this place is not a joke. Endless vertical rock bathing in the sun just waiting for us to attack it. Keber and I climbed around six or seven routes and were ready to call it a day when big rocks started falling from the sky. Some rocks were as big as basketballs and they were falling straight onto a group of climbers next to me. I was sure people are going to get seriously hurt. It seemed like it was the end of the world and after the thunder stopped everything was quite for a moment. We rushed to the scene and found out that a rock crushed one climber's leg. Everybody else was ok. We later heard that some Check tourist was walking on top of the rock wall, exploring an old castle ruin, when he triggered the falling rocks. Typical! You Can see the castle wall in one of the pictures. Although it was quite a serious situation.. we still had a great climbing day! Also check out the view from the top of the rock!
